This is fully depending on which method was used to install the dash camera. Below are 3 of the most common installs, and 1 less used but growingly popular method.

1) Cigarette Lighter Method: Most users like to opt for simply powering their dash cam with the cigarette lighter adapter. This is the most common installation and normally the camera will not work while installed in this way.
2) OBD Port: This is another plug and play method that users may be familiar with. Every car has an OBD port and it is most commonly used to check the computer aspects of the car. This method would allow the dash camera to record while turned off, but we recommend against it due to the sensitivity of the components. If anything goes wrong, there could be very costly damages to the car.
3) Hardwiring to Fuse Box: This method is one of our favorites, and is the most time consuming of the three options. This method will allow your dash camera to work while your car is turned off. With a power cut off mode, it will know when your battery is running low and will turn off your camera before putting your battery at risk. Note: This method could prove costly to some if opting for a professional to handle the installation. In most scenarios, it may feel like purchasing 2 dash cameras. With the Dashoto Install Kit, we’ve taken out a lot of the headaches by providing tools for each of our confident DIY (do-it-yourself) users.
4) Dashcam -> Battery Pack -> Fuse Box: Lastly, a growing trend is to install a battery pack to the fusebox, rather than the dash cam itself. In this case, the car battery would allow the battery pack to charge while driving. When the car is shut off, the battery would continue to run the dash camera, allowing for an extended 8hrs to 48hrs, depending on the battery and set up.

For more information on these setups, leave a message to our support staff here and we can help you find the right package to suit your needs.

How many hours of recording depends on multiple things. Of course, the size of your SD card is a major factor but the settings within your camera factor into the number of recordings your SD card could hold. Click here to see a general overview of what to expect for dashcams.

Buffered Parking mode is what makes our cameras different from the rest. Buffered parking mode uses Motion Detection to save storage space on your SD card, and also to not save any "useless" recordings. Motion detection is one thing, but a buffered parking mode gives you the 5 seconds before motion is detected, including audio, so you can see or hear the events leading up to the event. This may be valuable in vandalism and hit and run cases.

Let us be clear, Wi-Fi does not necessarily mean "internet".
Wi-Fi feature offers a network to pair between your dashcam and your smartphone. You can access dashcam’s video files and change settings through your smartphone. There is no internet access required or any data charges as it’s just a local network between the dashcam and the smartphone.

Also, it allows you to share and upload videos without removing the card from the camera. Some dashcams offer Cloud connectivity that allows the camera to connect to a separate Wi-Fi internet source to provide notifications and live streaming functions.

Wi-Fi keeps the footprint of the unit small, and not a distraction in your front windshield. Most people do not want a bulky LCD display on their dashcam, and everyone has a smartphone nowadays with Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi especially comes in handy if you're ever at a scene of an incident, and want to file a police report, or want some instant proof.

1. Download the correct firmware to your micro SD card and put it in the root directory (make sure to have a formatted SD card for this purpose)

Most of our dashcams are currently utilizing the loop recording system. Loop recording is when the camera automatically deletes the oldest dated files to make room for new recordings. For example, the dashcam may be deleting recorded files from last Wednesday when you’re driving on Monday morning.

A “G-Sensor” is short for “Gyroscrope Sensor” used in all dash cams to detect any impact or change in level of vehicle. If a vehicle received an impact from something, the G-Sensor will be triggered, and cause the dash cam to record another event video. This feature is really useful in parking mode, to record every vandalism events when the car is attended.
